In 2009, Formento+Formento took the decision to travel across the country in their Silver Air Stream. On a minimum budget, the couple decided to visit 25 states to photograph 50 women over a period of 5 months. Formento+Formento’s feminine figure is a glamorous stereotype. You can envisage her on Route 66, fleeing west. She seems vulnerable but determined. The photographs call forth the fantasies associated with the figure of a young girl in distress. With her suitcase in a service station, a motel or stopping in a disused building, there is a discrepancy between the physique and the beauty of the woman and the shabby decor that she crosses. The risks that she takes can be imagined and the strength of the despair which push her further still. She is never seen reaching her final destination. Her wandering will never come to an end.
